Pair of Victorian Silver ‘Onslow’ Pattern Salt Spoons with Shell Bowls by Henry Wilkinson & Co Ltd c1883
Here on offer is a pair of Victorian Silver ‘Onslow’ pattern Salt Spoons with Shell Bowls by Henry Wilkinson & Co Ltd, dating to 1883/4.
The Onslow pattern is a very distinctive pattern with its scroll top and usually a shell shaped bowl as in this case.
The pair of spoons are in excellent undamaged condition and they both have a set of English hallmarks stamped on the reverse of the spoon arm
The hallmarks are the Crown for the Sheffield assay office, the Lion for English sterling silver and they are followed by the year mark ‘Q’ on one spoon, for 1883 and on the other spoon, ‘R’ for 1884.
They both have the English makers mark, “H W & Co” in a shield that relate to Henry Wilkinson and Co Ltd, of Sheffield.
The founder of the firm was J. Winter in 1760c. In 1829 the firm was active as Henry Wilkinson & Co and in 1872 was converted into a limited liability company under the style Henry Wilkinson & Co Ltd. In 1892 Walker & Hall acquired the firm.
Each spoon measures 2.75” (7cm) long and they each weigh 6g.
