English William Rodgers Bowie Knife with Leather Boot Sheath c1950

Here on offer is a great example of a vintage bowie knife and boot sheath by William Rodgers of Sheffield, England, circa 1950.

The grip is made from two grip plates of beautiful rosewood, fitted to the steel tang by two large smooth headed rivets. It is a right-handed knife and has finger placement notches cut into one of the rosewood grip plates.

The crossguard is made from thick polished brass and the approximately 6” long steel blade fits tightly into it.

The Bowie shaped steel blade is in great condition. It does show some signs of overall greying to the finish and signs of being sharpened during its life. It still retains a very sharp edge!
It is stamped on one side of the small ricasso with:

WILLIAM
RODGERS
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND

The brown leather sheath has a stitched and riveted edge. It has had the belt loop top section removed, which people did so it could be easily used as a boot knife, without the belt flap and catch getting in the way.

The blade to the crossguard measures 5.75” (14.6cm) in length. The total length of the knife is 10.25” (26cm) and it weighs 220g

This is a good example of an English vintage Bowie knife and would make a great addition to any knife collection.
