Impressive WW2 RAF Art Deco Officer's Mess Cigarette Box
Here on offer is a large and impressive WW2 RAF art deco officer's mess cigarette box.
The main body of the hinged box appears to be made from bronze or a “bronzed” metal that has a lovely dark patina to the finish.
The top of the lid has been set with a genuine RAF Officer’s Side Forage Cap Badge, Eagle & Crown in gilt brass.
Around the edge of the lid four thin sections have been cut out to allow what I think is a silk RAF red, white and blue striped cloth to show through a thin sheet of glass.
Inside the box it is lined in wood with two compartments for cigarettes that can be adjusted by moving the central divider.
The base seems to have a dark leatherette covering.
The box is in excellent condition with a lovely dark patina to the finish and some slight rub marks on the base.
It measures 2.5” (6.4cm) high by 6” (15.4cm) wide and 3.5” (9cm) deep.
It weighs a heavy 565G.
