Rare WW2 Bomber Command Aircrew Association - RAF WING Brooch Watch by Otto Grun - New York

Here on offer is a rare WW2 RAF Bomber Command Aircrew Association (BCAA) enamel RAF WING Brooch Watch, made by Otto Grun, New York.

This is the best example of this unusual watch that I have seen, ALL the enamel is bright and still in place and undamaged, there is just some of the gilt worn off on the sides and the back of the wings.

I believe the RAF wings are made from sliver that has a gilt backing with the coloured enamels set on the front. On the reverse it still has its original vintage brooch pin and locking ‘C’ clip.

The face of the watch is undamaged, just slightly dirty and it has the letters BCAA in red at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions.

The watch seems to be working but in my opinion, it will need a service/clean to ensure it keeps good time as the mechanism was dusty when I opened up the back cover.

Stamped on the back cover is the maker’s name:

OTTO GRUN
NEW YORK
PAT. PEND

The watch movement itself states it has a 7 jewelled movement and was actually made by the LAURET Watch Company of Switzerland. Otto Grun originally sold watches in Germany, but had outlets in the USA (New York) to enable sales of Swiss movement watches during and after WW2.

The WINGS measures 1.5” (3.8cm) wide and the watch is about 0.9” (2.5cm) diameter.

It weighs 15g.
