WW2 Romanian Army Dagger with Scabbard and Hanging Straps

Here on offer is a WW2 Romanian Army dagger with scabbard and rare hanging straps.

There is no maker mark on this dagger as is common with these Romanian daggers.

The hilt fittings are all chrome-plated an in excellent condition, showing no signs of rust or pitting.

The ornate pommel is in the shape of an eagle’s head and it still retains its original red glass eyes and portepee loop/ring.

The chequered black Bakelite grip plates are held in place on either side by two metal rivets. The front plate has also been inset with a gilt metal cypher of Carol II.

The plated crossguard has a plain finish and a downturned quillion tip.

The chrome-plated, double-edged stiletto shaped blade is actually in excellent condition with just some light surface wear/runner marks. The tip still retains its sharp point and the edges show signs of some sharpening.

The dent-free chrome-plated, ball finial scabbard has a bayonet-style suspension lug on the front. It is in mint condition with no lifting to plating.

This fine dagger also comes with a rare set of original leather and fabric fronted hanging straps. The two long suspension straps have a coloured fabric front, which depict the colours of the Romanian flag. These now have a dirty finish and on one the stitching to the leather backing has come away, but there are no splits or rips to the straps. The tops have belt loops that are held in place by chrome rivets.

The scabbard lug fits into a thick brown leather hanger that is held together with stitching and two large chrome rivets. One rivet has started to pull away from the leather on the back.

Finally there is a thin dagger-retaining strap that fits across the front.

This is a great example of a Romanian Army dagger in excellent condition with a rare set of hanging straps.

The blade measures 6.5” (16.5cm) and the dagger in the scabbard measures a total of 11.4” (29cm) long.

With the straps it weighs 275g.
