Antique Silver Gilt Medal Awarded for the Newquay Flower Show in 1912
Here on offer is an unusual antique silver gilt medal that was awarded to the winner of the Newquay (Cornwall) Flower Show in 1912.
The pierced circular medal has a domed shield shaped centre that has been professionally engraved with the words:
NEWQUAY
1912
FLOWER SHOW
At the top it has a crown with a loop ring that is stamped with the Lion Passant.
On the reverse there is a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an Anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “k” for the year 1909.
It also shows the makers mark, “W.W.C.” set in an indented rectangle, which I believe stands for the maker:
William Walter Cashmore
of Birmingham, England.
The medal is in excellent condition with just some slight loss of gilt to the solid silver finish.
It measures 1.5” (4cm) to top of ring by 1” (2.4cm) wide and weighs 9g.
