Cased Royal Tank Corps Silver Plate and Enamel Athletic Match Medal for Team Javelin Throwing - 1925

Here on offer is silver-plated, gilt and enamel, Royal Tank Corps medal for team javelin throwing at an athletic match in 1925.

The medal has been very finely cast in what I think is copper, which has then been silver plated and finished with coloured enamel and gilt.

The front depicts the Royal Tank Regiments emblem and motto on a gilt disc. The outer edges show a laurel wreath with four sections of coloured enamel, depicting the regimental colours.

On the reverse it again shows the circular laurel wreath and in the centre is engraved with the words:

R.T.C. ATHLETIC MATCH
1925
Team Javelin
Throwing

On the lower edge is a Registered Design number and the maker’s name:

REGd
688456
PHILLIPS
ALDERSHOT

The Registered Design number relates to the years 1923, which I suspect is the year the medal was made, being engraved a couple of years later for the match.

The medal still retains its original hard-shelled blue leather covered dome topped case.

Inside there is a shaped recessed medal bed lined with dark blue velvet.

Printed on the silk lining inside the top lid is the famous ‘military award’ maker’s name:

F. Phillips
Medallist
ALDERSHOT"

The medal measures 1.1” (2.8cm) diameter and weighs 19g.

The medal is in really fine condition with some very light age patina to the finish.

These early ‘higher’ quality medals are now becoming very collectable, especially with their cases.
