Cased Royal Navy & Royal Marines Medal – Inter Port Amateur Boxing Championships – Light Weight – 2nd Place - 1932

Here on offer is a very fine gilt bronze Royal Navy & Royal Marines medal for the Inter Port Amateur Boxing Championships 1932 – Light Weight – 2nd Place.

The medal has been very finely cast and the front depicts a standing image of Britannia with her helmet, trident and laurel wreath. She is shown in front of a standing lion with the sea and a battleship in the far distance. The words:

ROYAL NAVY & ROYAL MARINES
CHAMPIONSHIPS

Are in raised letters around the outer edge.

On the top edge there is the maritime crown with dolphins and the suspension loop.

On the reverse there is the image of an anchor, laurel wreath, rope and in the centre a sail shaped crest, with the engraved words:

R.N. & R.M. Inter Port
Amateur Boxing
Championships 1932
Light – weight
Second

Just below the anchor the makers name is shown as:

PHILLIPS ALDERSHOT

The medal still retains its original hard-shelled blue leather covered dome topped case, with gilt embossing.

Inside there is a shaped recessed medal bed that can be pulled out with the tag at the top and opened up to provide a desk display stand.

Printed on the silk lining inside the top lid is the famous ‘military award’ maker’s name:

F. Phillips
Medallist
ALDERSHOT"

The medal measures 1.5” (3.8cm) diameter and weighs 34g.

The medal is in really fine condition with some light age patina to the finish.

These early ‘higher’ quality medals are now becoming very collectable, especially with their cases.
