Vintage Royal Dutch Air Force Dagger with Hangers by Carl Eickhorn Solingen c1960

Here on offer is an excellent example of Royal Dutch Air Force dagger with hangers made by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen, circa 1960.

All the dagger and scabbard fittings have a bright gilt finish to the metal parts.

The beautifully cast open pommel is in the shape of the Dutch Royal Crown.

The grip is made of a hard polished black plastic and is ribbed with a double twisted brass wire winding. There is a hairline crack to the reverse of the grip that runs vertically from the top, about two thirds of the length of the grip. This was most likely caused by over tightening the pommel at some point and I have slightly slackened the pommel off to ensure it does not go any further along the grip.

The crossguard in the shape of a flying eagle and has the scabbard release button on the reverse.

It still retains its original white felt scabbard washer.

The 9.75” (24.8cm) double-edged nickel-plated blade is in mint condition and has the German maker's name and trademark:

CARL EICKHORN-SOLINGEN
and a sitting squirrel stamped on the ricasso.

The black leather scabbard with has smooth gilt fittings that are held in place with large staples on the reverse. It retains its two hanging rings.

It comes with a mint set of black patent leather adjustable hanging straps that have gilt metal fittings.

I believe these were made in a very limited numbers back in the early 1960’s.

The dagger is in truly excellent condition just with very minor rubbing to the plating on the wings of the eagle and a hairline crack to the reverse of the grip.

The dagger in the scabbard measures a total of 16.8” (42.8cm) long and weighs 450g.
