Antique WW1 Period English Hallmarked Solid Silver Watch Fob or Medal for Running by William James Dingley - 1915
Here on offer is a WW1 period English silver watch fob or medal for Running by William James Dingley – 1915.
The oval shaped fob has been made from a thick piece of solid silver and the front depicts the image of two athletes running. There is also a small blank cartouche on the left hand side that could be engraved with the winner’s initials etc.
The back shows some fine engraving work around the edges, but is still blank.
There is also a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “q” for the year 1915.
It also shows the makers mark, “W.J.D.” set in an indented rectangle, which I believe stands for the maker:
William James Dingley
of Warstone Lane, Birmingham.
There is also a Registered Design Rd No. 360459 that dates to 1898 when the design was first registered, back in the Victorian period.
This fob is truly a fine quality piece that is in beautiful undamaged condition and still has the blank cartouches.
It measures 1.6” (4cm) to top of ring by 1” (2.4cm) wide.
It weighs a heavy 15g of silver.
