Cased 1949 Royal Air Force Athletic & Cross Country Association Gilt Bronze Award Medal – Athletic Championships – Individual High Jump
Here on offer is a fine gilt bronze Royal Air Force Athletic & Cross Country Association Award Medal, in its original dark blue leather cover case.
The medal has been very finely cast and the front depicts a standing athletic man wearing a helmet and looks to be having wings attached to him by another bearded man, seated on a rock to the right.
Just below the figures the makers name is shown as:
PHILLIPS ALDERSHOT
At the bottom it is inscribed in raised lettering:
ROYAL AIR FORCE ATHLETIC CROSS COUNTRY ASSOCIATION
On the reverse it is engraved inside an open-ended wreath of laurel leaves, with the words:
Athletic CHAMPIONSHIPS
1949
HIGH JUMP
THIRD
The medal still retains its original hard-shelled blue leather covered case with a recessed medal bed.
Printed on the silk lining inside the top lid is the famous ‘military award’ maker’s name:
F. Phillips
Medallist
ALDERSHOT"
The medal measures 1.5” (3.8cm) diameter and weighs 25g.
The medal is in really fine condition with some age patina to the finish.
These early ‘higher’ quality medals are now becoming very collectable, especially with their cases.
