WW1 USCE Nickel Full Hunter Pocket Compass by Taylor of Rochester, NY, circa 1918

Here on offer is WWI Era nickel full hunter USCE ( U.S. Corp of Engineers) compass by Taylor of Rochester, New York, that is in working order.

I believe this style of compass was made between 1915a and 1920 by Taylor of Rochester, New York, with a nickel or brass outer case.

From what I can make out the back of the case would have been stamped with the letters USCE, but someone has scratched the letters off at some point. I can just make out four letters pushing through on the inside of the case but they are really hard to see.

The glass over the dial is still crystal clear and undamaged.

The dial face is marked ‘Taylor’ and has a red jewel bearing on the thick needle pointer.

I think the dial NSWE points were painted to once glow in the dark.

The hinged case opens and shuts solidly but I can’t check it the brass release mechanism still works.

The outer nickel case has minor scratches from wear but no dents or repairs.

It outer case measures 1.75” (4.4cm) diameter and it weighs 44.5g
