WW1 New York State War Service Medal with Ribbon circa 1919 - Numbered 77876

Here on offer is a gilt bronze WW1 New York State War Service Medal with its correct blue and white striped ribbon and brooch pin attachment.

The medal was instituted in 1919 by the State of New York and awarded to state citizens who served in the armed forces during World War I.

The front depicts an infantryman with a winged Victory behind him. There are ships in the lower background and the inscription "WORLD WAR" along the top.

The reverse depicts the New York State coat-of-arms and is inscribed:

FOR SERVICE 1917-1919 PRESENTED BY THE STATE OF NEW YORK

This is all enclosed in an open-ended leafed wreath, ribbon banners inscribed "BELGIUM, ITALY, SIBERIA" on the left and "FRANCE, GERMANY, RUSSIA" on the right.

This example is also numbered 77876 on the reverse and I believe it may be possible to trace who it was originally issued to, if further research is undertaken.

This example is in excellent condition , no dings or scratches that I can see, just some age related patina to the finish.

The medal measures 1.26” (33cm) diameter and weighs 20g.
