Art Deco Hallmarked Silver Cased Faux Tortoiseshell Comb, by Turner & Simpson Ltd 1932
Here on offer is a beautiful Art Deco hallmarked silver cased faux tortoiseshell comb, by Turner & Simpson Ltd, Legge Lane, Birmingham, dated to 1932.
I would say this is a ladies purse or handbag sized comb and is finished with a stunning Art Deco style machine etched geometric pattern.
On both sections of comb case there are an impressed set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an Anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “H” for the year 1932.
There are also maker’s marks on both sections, T & S, which stands for the silversmith, Turner & Simpson Ltd of Legge Lane, Birmingham.
The silver outer case is in perfect condition with no dents or scratches. The only issue is that the faux tortoiseshell comb has lost one tooth, as shown in my photos.
The silver comb case measures 4.1” (10.4cm) long and 1.1” (2.8cm) high when closed.
It weighs 28g.
