Very Fine Prussian WW1 Silver Pilots Badge by C. E. JUNCKER with Original Fitted Case

Here on offer is a very fine and rare example of a genuine Prussian WW1 Silver Pilots Badge by C. E. Juncker with its original fitted case.

The Badge itself is made from a hollow construction using 800 grade German silver and has a slight aged patina finish to the silver.

On the obverse of the badge, the centre shows a finely detailed period German monoplane in flight and an impressive wreath surrounds outer edge. The left side has laurel leaves symbolising victory, while the right side has oak leaves signifying strength and hardiness. The bow joining them together at the bottom signifies the joining of these two qualities.

On the reverse it has a crisp maker’s mark, being the maker’s name and town and depicts a crescent moon mark and 800 grade silver hallmark:

C.E. JUNCKER
BERLIN
800

Also on the reverse it has a strong silver vertical needle pin back with a barrel hinge and a ‘C’ clasp catch.

This rare example also comes with its original dark blue leatherette case of issue. Inside of the lid it displays the C.E. Juncker logo and address in gold on a red silk backing.

Some history relating to these badges:

The Pilot’s Badge (or Flugzeugführerabzeichen in German) is a badge from the Kingdom of Prussia instituted on 27 January 1913 by the King of Prussia and the Emperor of the German Empire Wilhelm II in conjunction with his birthday.

The badge was awarded to officers, NCOs and enlisted men upon successful graduation from the flying schools and passing two practical flight examinations. These consisted of unassisted take off and landing as well as long-distance or a cross-country flight.

The badge measures 2.76” (7.1cm) high and 1.75” (4.5cm) wide.

It weighs 29.8g of German silver.

The quality and detail of this badge is exceptional and in my opinion it would be almost impossible to upgrade.
