Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier HMS BULWARK (R08) – Cast Metal Crest Plaque – 1950’s

Here on offer is a vintage ships crest plaque for "HMS BULWARK" (R08), circa 1950.

The hand painted cast metal ships crest has been mounted on to a shield shaped wooden plaque that looks to have been cut from a light mahogany wood.
The crest is in excellent condition and retains nearly all its original paint, just a couple of chips around the steel nails that hold it to the wooden plaque.

On the back of the wooden frame is an old metal hook used to hang it on a wall.

Some history about HMS Bulwark:

HMS Bulwark was launched on 22nd June 1948 and was commissioned by the Royal Navy in 1954.
In 1956 Bulwark it took part in "Operation Musketeer" during the Suez Crisis and launched up to 600 sorties.
In 1958 she assisted two tankers, which collided in the Persian Gulf. She towed one of the tankers SS Melika to Muscat, winning the Boyd Trophy for her actions.
She was decommissioned in 1981,and scrapped in 1984.

This is a really impressive crest plaque and makes a great display item for any British Naval military collection.

The wooden frame measures 9” (22.8cm) by 7” (17.8cm) and the metal crest is 5.3” (13.5cm) diameter.

It weighs 570g.
