Commemorative FS Style Knife and Leather Sheath by Franklin Mint 1991
Here on offer is a mint example of a commemorative FS Style knife and leather sheath by Franklin Mint 1991.
I believe this knife is from the WW2 Combat Knives Collection that Franklin Mint produced back in 1991.
These knives are now 30+ years old and now have become collectable in their own right.
I have no idea if this knife was sold separately from the WW2 collection with a sheath or whether it has been taken from a collection and had a sheath added too it?
The gilt hilt and crossguard seem to be well made from a single heavy casting of metal with the gilt Crown pommel fixing the tang of the blade tightly to the hilt.
The grip has a finely machined knurled finish, which retains all of its gilt finish.
Under the crossguard it is stamped with:
91 FM and the Franklin Mint logo being a F inside a circle.
The mint double-edged chrome plated dagger blade measures 6.76” (17.4cm) and has a central grove on the front side. There is also an etched image of a crown with ribbons and tassels on the front ricasso.
This example comes with a well-made 1990’s period black leather FS sheath that has a blackened chape and still has it’s two leather “wing” tags. I think this may well be a genuine modern FS knife sheath?
The retaining elastic at the top does not stretch enough to go over the pommel/grip, but the knife sits perfectly in the sheath.
The blade measures 6.76” (17.4cm) long and the knife is 11.75” (30cm) in total length.
It weighs 300g.
