Rare Transitional RAD Hewer Leather Hanger by OTTO SINDEL of Berlin 1936

Here on offer is a very unusual and rare example of an issued Rad Hewer leather hanger, by OTTO SINDEL of Berlin and dated 1936.

This is a very rare variation and one I have never seen before.

It is possibly a transitional piece, as it shows design elements from both the first and second model hangers.

I think the newer hanger was introduced in 1936 so that would support this piece being a transitional hanger.

The hanger itself is in excellent/near mint condition with just some light loss of plating to the metal clip.

The hanger loop features a thick brown leather strap with a slot that is held in place by a large plated stud.
This in turn is stitched to a large thick brown leather pad that protected the back of the scabbard from rubbing on the uniform.
This is also attached to a wide nickel-plated metal “snap” clip, which is in working order.
The maker’s name and details are professionally stamped into the leather on the back of the strap and read as:

BERLIN
1936

OTTO SINDEL was a well-respected maker of fine leather items for the NAZI movement and this is and fine quality example of their work.

Below the maker’s details is stamped the official RAD triangle with the words “Ges Gesch”.

It is very hard to find the standard versions of these hangers, but this one is exceptionally rare.

It measures about 8” (20.3cm) long and weighs 90g.
