Montgomery Clan Hallmarked Scottish Silver Lapel Brooch – Edinburgh 1951
Here on offer is a Montgomery Clan hallmarked Scottish silver lapel brooch, dated to Edinburgh 1951.
This small solid silver brooch is in excellent condition and still has some fine detail to the Montgomery clan image of the lady on the front. She is supporting an anchor with one hand and holding the severed head of a Saracen the other.
She is bordered by a ribbon/belt that has the motto:
GARDE BIEN (Guard Well)
On the reverse there is a full set of Scottish silver hallmarks, being the Thistle and Castle for Edinburgh and the date letter “V” for the year 1951.
There is also a makers mark, being two initials, but I cant make out what the letters are, possibly R S or P S?
It also still retains its original “C” clasp and silver pin.
The brooch measures about 1” (2.6cm) wide by 1.25” (3cm) high.
It weighs 5.5g.
