Framed Victorian Period Heart-Shaped Sweetheart Pincushion – “Sweet Memories”
Here on offer is a wonderful example of a Victorian period Heart-shaped sweetheart pincushion that’s been fitted into a glass fronted wooden display case.
In the centre of the cushion is a square of early cream coloured celluloid square, which has the embossed image of an anchor, heart and horseshoe all joined by a rope, surrounded by coloured flowers.
In the centre is the words:
SWEET MEMORIES
Pinned to the top corners of the cushion are two silk rectangles, one shows the Union Jack with the words FORGET ME NOT and the other is a THINK OF ME poem.
This impressive heart shaped pincushion was probably made by injured and recovering soldiers from wars during Queen Victoria’s reign.
They where mostly sent home to a sweetheart or family member.
This example is in excellent condition and I have left the sealed display case unopened.
The pincushion looks to be made from an ivory silk material on the top that shows NO signs of fading and it has been embellished with lots of coloured pinned on beads.
I can’t actually tell how old the lovely wooden display case is, but looks to be a later period piece.
This is just a beautiful example of one of these pincushions, in really excellent condition that will make a great addition to any military collection.
The heart cushion measures approximately 6.75” (17.2cm) by 6.25” (16cm) and the case is 10.75” (27.4cm) by 10” (25.4cm) and 3” (7.6cm) deep.
It weighs 985g.
