Framed Victorian Period Heart-Shaped Sweetheart Pincushion with the Emblem for the 7th Hussars & Essex Regiment

Here on offer is a beautiful example of a Victorian period Heart-shaped sweetheart pincushion with the emblem for the 7th (Queen’s Own) Hussars and the Essex Regiment that’s been fitted into a glass fronted wooden display case.

In the centre of the cushion is a circular paper colour printed image of the Essex Regiment and above that is a paper printed image of the 7th Hussars emblem.

On the sides there are two paper strips that the maker has written in ink, the word BEST on one and LOVE on the other.

This impressive heart shaped pincushion was probably made by injured and recovering soldiers from wars during Queen Victoria’s reign.

They where mostly sent home to a sweetheart or family member.

This example is in excellent condition and I have left the sealed display case unopened to avoid damaging the decorative lace display that has been set around the edges of the heart.

The pincushion looks to be made from coloured fabrics on the top that show NO signs of fading and these have been embellished with lots of clear and silver pearl pinned on beads.
The edge is trimmed with a lace tassel ribbon.

I can’t actually tell how old the lovely wooden display case is, but looks to be a later period piece.

This is just a beautiful example of one of these pincushions, in really excellent condition that will make a great addition to any military collection.

The heart cushion measures approximately 5” (12.7cm) by 5” (12.7cm) and the case is 10.75” (27.4cm) by 8.6” (22cm) and 2.25” (5.7cm) deep.

It weighs 740g.
