Rare Antique Folding Combination Cigar Holder with Knife and Piercer by J.Nowill & Sons c1890

Here on offer is a rare example of an antique folding combination cigar holder with a knife and long piercer by J.Nowill & Sons of Sheffield, England, circa 1890.

J.Nowill & Sons are famous Sheffield knife manufactures and they have been making them since 27th April 1700.

This is the only combination cigar tool that I have seen by this maker and it is in excellent original condition, with just slight age greying to the steel.

The grip is made from two polished slabs of ivory that are held in place by four silver pins. The slabs are in perfect undamaged condition, just one side shows some very light age staining to it, which is to be expected, given its about 130 years old.

All three of the tools still fold out and hold in place perfectly.

The two pronged fork, is actually stamped on one side with the lettering:

CIGAR HOLDER.

On the other side it has the maker’s name:

J.NOWILL & SONS
SHEFFIELD

The small knife still retains a sharp edge and has the CROSS KEYS logo (first seen in 1842) of J.Nowill & Sons, stamped on the ricasso.

The long thin piercer is just in perfect condition and it’s amazing how it has survived so intact.

This rare and unusual piece makes a great addition to any tobacciana collection by a famous English knife maker.

It measures 2.5” (5.8cm) long when closed up.

The knife is 1” (2.5cm) long, the Cigar Holder is also 1” (2.5cm) long and the Piercer is 1.9” (4.8cm) long.
