Rare WW2 Period Hallmarked Silver Cigar Piercer by E Baker & Son dated 1939 in the shape of a Bullet

Here on offer is a really unusual “Bullet” shaped WW2 period English hallmarked Silver Cigar Piercer made by E Baker & Son and dated to 1939.

This is a beautifully made and perfectly proportioned shape of a real bullet and would have made a very special present for a senior serving Officer at the start of WW2.

The cigar piercer is in excellent undamaged condition and is still in full working order.

It is worked by pushing down the top of the bullet head against the internal spring, into the main body of the cartridge. That eases the sharp cylindrical piercer out, into the cigar and removes a circular section.

You can tell this is a real quality piece as the action of pushing the bullet head down has a very smooth resistance, like pushing against a small piston.

On the outside of the case are a full set of English silver hallmarks, being the Anchor for Birmingham, a Lion Passant for English silver and the date letter “P” for the year 1939.

Next to the hallmarks is the maker’s mark, E.B set into an oval.

This relates to the fine English silversmiths, E Baker & Son of Augusta Street, Birmingham. They first registered their business back in 1902 and where known for making fine quality smoking accessories.

Also stamped around the base of the cartridge base is a Registered Design number: Rd 837327, which again dates it to 1939.

This rare and unusual piece makes a great addition to any antique English silver collection and also has that WW2 military connection.

It measures 2.1” (5.4cm) long by 0.4” (0.9cm) diameter at the base.

It weighs 7g.
