Original British WW2 P39 Home Guard Leather Bayonet Frog
Here on offer is an original British WW2 P39 Home Guard leather bayonet frog.
They were issued initially in 1939 for use with the P1907, P13 and P17 bayonets and primarily used by the British Home Guard.
I can’t see any makers details, but there does appear to be a number “033” stamped into the leather on the reverse in between the rivets.
The leather on this example is now hard and it does show some signs of surface age cracking that I believe could be improved with some leather softener.
Personally, I would only fit this to a scabbard without the frog stud in place to avoid the leather being over stressed and splitting.
All the stitching and rivets are in place and it is in good overall used condition.
It measures 8.5” (21.6cm) long and weighs 70g.
Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
