WW1 French 75mm Field Gun Trench Art Embossed Brass Shell Case
Here on offer is a great example of a WW1 French 75mm field gun Trench Art brass shell case.
The case has been beautifully hand embossed with the image of a flowering poppy shown against a stippled background, that goes all around the outside of the case.
The top lip of the case has been ribbed and shows some age dents that could be pushed out if so required.
The base shows the stamped French ordinance marks that read as:
75 DE C
ATE 400 L 16 S
I belief this can be interpreted as 75 DE C means it is a 75mm De Campagne. Made by ATE Atelier de Constructions de Toulouse, Lot number 400 L and dated to 1916.
A beautiful piece of WW1 Trench Art, that still makes an attractive display item.
The case measures 11.75” (29.7cm) tall by 3.4” (8.6cm) diameter at the base.
It weighs a heavy 1.1Kg.
