Antique “Leopard Shirtings” Brass Letter Opener Advertising Horrockses Crewdson & Co Ltd c1889 with Case
Here on offer is a mint example of an antique "Leopard Shirtings" brass letter opener advertising Horrockses Crewdson & Co Ltd, Manchester, circa 1889.
This Rare Victorian brass letter opener has on the circular handle: the image of a leopard and the words “LEOPARD SHIRTINGS on one side.
On the other side is the image of three mice chasing each other’s tails, and the words Horrockses Crewdson & Co Ltd, Manchester.
This is the official Trade Mark for the Manchester textiles company and also shows the registration number (Rd) of 119525 which dates it to c1889.
Above both images are three roses on each side.
This Victorian advertising or souvenir letter opener still comes with its original lined cardboard case, which has the image of the “Horrockses Crewdson & Co Ltd” trade mark on the front lid.
The letter opener is in mint unused condition and displays a beautiful 130 year old aged patina finish to the brass.
The letter opener measures 6.75” (17cm) long and weighs 136g.
