Unusual Middle Eastern “Trench Art” Brass Box Depicting King Bin Saud of Saudi Arabia c1943
Here on offer is an unusual lidded brass “trench art” box depicting King Abdulaziz “Bin Saud” Abdul Rahman the founder of Saudi Arabia, dated 1943.
I was told this box dates back to WW2 and is a rare for of Middle Eastern “Trench Art”.
The numbers 43 stamped into on
e edge of the lid, relate to the year 1943.
On the top of the plain brass lid is a clear profile image of the Saudi King Bin Saud and an Arabic symbol that I do not recognise.
The main body of the brass box has a flower and leaf pattern engraved on each side and the lip of the box has a raised lip that also has a floral design on all four sides.
I have never come across a box like this before but think it may have been used as a table top cigarette holder?
The box measures 4” (10.2cm) square by 1.6” (4.2cm) high and weighs 218g.
It is excellent condition and has a nice aged patina finish to the brass.
