Large Arcadian Crested China WW1 British Tank – Mark IV - Birmingham - c1917

Here on offer is a fine example of an Arcadian (A & S) crested china model of a WW1 (Female) Mark IV British Tank, made in 1917.

The Mark IV was introduced in 1917 and it benefited from significant developments of the Mark I tank. The main improvements were in armour, the re-siting of the fuel tank and ease of transport. A total of 1,220 Mk IV’s were built: 420 “Males”, 595 “Females” and 205 Tank Tenders (unarmed vehicles used to carry supplies), which made it the most numerous British tank of the war. The Mark IV was first used in mid 1917 at the Battle of Messines Ridge. It remained in British service until the end of the war, and a small number served briefly with other combatants afterwards.

On the top of this model is a beautiful coloured transfer image of the shield for the City of:

BIRMINGHAM

On the base is the printed makers mark for:

Arcadian China
(A & S)

and the words:

MODEL OF
TANK

There is also a REG No 658588, which dates it to 1916 to 1917.

The British Tank model is in excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just some loss of gilt to the edges of the top turret.

The large model measures 6.3” (16cm) long by 3.75” (9cm) wide.

It weighs 250g.
