WW1 Solid Silver 1919 Declaration of Peace Medal from the City of Glasgow

Here on offer is stunning museum quality example of a 1919 Declaration of Peace, heavy solid silver medal from the City of Glasgow.

The front depicts the detailed image of the female figure of ‘Peace’ with the words:

DECLARATION OF PEACE 1919

around its border.

There is a crown depicted at the top and Scottish thistles to both sides.

On the back is the image of the City of Glasgow arms and motto, surrounded by the words:

CORPORATION OF GLASGOW CELEBRATION

There are Scottish thistles to the top and both sides.

At the very top is a suspension loop, which is stamped with the English Lion, confirming the medal is made from solid English Sterling (925 grade) Silver.

There are no actual makers marks that I can see and as only a few examples exist, I am unable to trace the maker, who was most likely a Scottish Silversmith?

The medal measures 1.9” (4.8cm) long including the suspension ring, by 1” (2.5cm) wide.

It weighs a heavy 16.7g of Sterling silver.

A lot of these medals where made of brass and bronze, with a very few being made of silver.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a museum grade example of this unusual WW1 peace medal.
