WW1 British Trench Art - Large Round Copper Plaque from France
Here on offer is a great piece of WW1 British Trench Art.
I was told it has been made from the lid of a French copper milk churn, as used to supply the troops in France during WW1.
The large round copper lid has been fitted with a small chain to enable it to be wall hung.
Hand engraved on the front in a star pattern, are the words:
SOUVENIR OF THE GREAT WAR FRANCE 1914 - 1918
The rest of the lid is beautifully engraved with a floral steam pattern.
It is in excellent condition with just a couple of small holes near the outer rim that may have been used to fix a small handle originally?
It measures 10.6” (27cm) diameter and weighs 340g
