Rare WW1 Souvenir Pocket Watch Depicting LORD KITCHENER & JOSEPH JOFFRE 1914-1915

Here on offer is a very rare and unusual example of a genuine WW1 souvenir Pocket Watch that depicts the images of the British Secretary of War, Lord Kitchener and the French Commander, Joseph Joffre.

The main body of the watch is silver plated with most of the plating worn off on the outer edges and back cover.

The back-hinged cover levers open to reveal the top wound jewelled mechanism, which is in WORKING order, BUT the watch only runs when laid down on a flat service. I assume it would just need a clean/service to restore it to its fully working condition, if so required by the new owner.

The hands are moved by pushing in the set pin on the edge and turning the top winder.

The inside of the rear cover retains all its silver plating and seems to have the number 4 stamped on it?

There are no visible maker marks, either on the watch or the case.

The front glass-retaining rim is made from gunmetal and has a circular ribbed pattern and it shows some light rust pitting.

The watch front has an open face with a lovely clear crystal glass.

The dial face appears to be made from gilt metal with a lightly grooved pattern. The watch numbers are gilt on a red background that are displayed through holes in the main dial face. Some of the numbers show some discolouration.

The centre of the dial shows coloured photo images of Lord Kitchener and Joffre, below which are the words:

SOUVENIR OF
1914-15
THE GREAT WAR

There also appears to be Joffre’s name printed to the left of his image.

The gilt ornate watch hands show some signs of age discoloration.

The watch measure 2.1” (5.1cm) diameter and weighs 85g.

It is indeed a rare example of a poignant timepiece that would enhance any WW1 memorabilia collection.
