WW1 British War & Victory Medals to 27105 PTE W.C. STEAD – East Surrey Regiment
Here on offer is a really nice pair of original WW1 medals issued to a Walter, Charles, STEAD who served with the East Surrey Regiment.
The medals consist of a Silver
WW1 BRITISH WAR MEDAL
and a gilt (some age patina)
WW1 BRITISH VICTORY MEDAL,
both full size, and correctly named to
W.C. STEAD
The medals are in excellent issued condition, complete with their correctly coloured long ribbons, which are in mint unused condition.
The medals have the following stamped on their lower rims:
27105 PTE W.C. STEAD. E. SURR. R.
The National Archives have his medal records under reference WO 372/19/26562 and show that his Christian names were ‘Walter Charles’.
On checking the CWGC, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, there isn’t a grave recorded against him, so he must have been one of the lucky ones who survived the war!
Worth further research.
