RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ORNATE BRASS THERMOMETER HOLDER
Here on offer is a rare example of an antique Victorian ornately patterned brass thermometer holder.
I believe this holder may have been originally silver-plated, as there is some evidence of it still existing in the recesses of the pattern, but is has clearly worn off over the years.
The cylindrical shaped holder has a beautiful raised floral pattern all over its surface, including the top and bottom caps.
The top section pulls off and is held in place by two attached brass chains and a ring.
The Thermometer Holder is in excellent condition with just a couple of very slight indentations on the long section that are hard to see, but can be felt.
There is also what looks like a split in the inside plain section that the top section slides over. This does not effect its use in any way and the fit of the top section is still very tight indeed.
The holder does NOT contain a thermometer.
It measures 5.75” (14.7cm) long by 0.6” (1.3cm) diameter.
Including the chain it measures 7.75” (19.7cm) and weighs 30g.
I cannot find another example like this one but feel it was probably owned and used by a private nanny or nurse in the employ of a wealthy family, and would have been suspended from a chatelaine.
