WW1 British Columbia Canadian Expeditionary Forces 1915 Bronze Badge with Lord’s Prayer

Here on offer is a rare example of a WW1 British Columbia (BC), Canadian Expeditionary Forces 1915 Bronze Badge with the Lord’s Prayer on the reverse.

The Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) was the entire overseas force fielded by Canada during the First World War. Of the 630,000 Canadians who enlisted for military service, 424,000 went overseas as part of the CEF.
The Canadian Corps that fought on the Western Front was the CEF’s largest formation and its principal combat element, but not its only one. Other units in the CEF served outside the Corps, including the Canadian Cavalry Brigade, forestry and railway units, and various medical hospitals.

The bronze front depicts finely detailed relief images of cannon’s, swords, a horn, an anchor, a bulldog and rifles, as well as maple leaves.
The top two leaves have the raised letters B C that I believe refers to British Columbia.

Around the central disc are the words:

CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES 1915

The central disc seems to be of gilt brass and depicts a WW1 Canadian solider holding a rifle.

On the reverse of the brass disc, in raised letters is printed the Lord’s Prayer, which you need an eyepiece to read!

Also on the back is the original fixing pin and “C” clasp.

The badge measures 1.4” (3.5cm) diameter and weighs 12g.
