Very Rare Near Mint WW2 German Army Officers Dagger with Artificial Acid Etched Band Pattern Damascus Blade & Deep Orange Grip by CARL EICKHORN

Here on offer is a very rare and stunning example of a WW2 German Army Officers Dagger with an artificial acid etched “Band Pattern” Damascus blade and glass-like deep orange grip by CARL EICKHORN.

The dagger is in stunning near mint condition with a thick silver-plating finish to all the mounts and fittings, including the scabbard, with NO loss of plating!

The 12 oak leaf pattern Pommel is in near mint condition, showing quality hand finishing to the oak leaves.

The Grip is beautiful deep orange solid trolon/celluloid type, with a ‘Glass-Like’ finish and is in mint condition, no cracks and just the slightest chip on the bottom right hand side where it touches the ferrule ring.

The spread winged Army Eagle crossguard retains all its crisp detailing and no loss of plating. The reverse is smooth and still has all its plating in place.
The ferrule has the finely detailed oak leaf design.

The beautifully “band patterned” acid etched Damascus blade is just stunning. It measures
10.25” (26cm) in length and is in truly mint condition. For an acid etched blade it has a really smooth finish (only very slightly raised) as one would expect with an EICKHORN produced blade.

These artificial acid etched blades where created by a controlled process whereby metal-attacking acid was applied to a blade surface to produce a Damascus type design.

The reason these where produced is that they where far cheaper to purchase than a real smith made blade and the real blades where hard to obtain during WW2.

A number of fake blades where made in the 1960’s which had poor finishes and normally spurious inscriptions to German Soldiers or War Events.

Period artificial blades are very rare to find and this is a truly fine example, which in my opinion can’t be bettered!

I have only come across this one in over 40 years of collecting, a really rare piece!

The blade is complete with its dark brown leather buffer pad.

On the reverse it has a clear EICKHORN ‘Seated Squirrel with Sword’, maker’s trademark which was used between 1935 and 1941.

The silver-plated metal Scabbard is dent free and again in near mint condition.

The throat is held in place by one round-headed screw on the reverse.

The blade on this dagger is just stunning and the dagger would make a great addition to any Army collection.

The Dagger in the scabbard measures a total of 15.75” (40cm) long and weighs 350g.
