WW1 ‘Welcome Home’ Hand Made Crochet Knitted Tea Cosy – Woman’s Own Magazine Pattern c1916
Here on offer is a wonderful WW1 period crochet knitted “WELCOME HOME” Navy related Tea Cosy.
I believe these patriotic pieces where actually hand made from patterns that where published in the “Woman’s Own” Magazine around 1916.
The front and back have the same design, with
the slogan “UNITED” at the top and "WELCOME HOME" at the bottom and above it is a Navy Battleship framed by British and French flags and an anchors in the bottom corners.
The "WELCOME HOME" slogan is really touching, because presumably it was made in anticipation of a sailor coming home on leave, or at the end of the war.
The WOMAN”S OWN Magazines dido have quite a few patterns for garments for the armed forces, mainly knitting patterns, but there are probably more patterns for decorative bits of crochet (doyleys, fancy edgings, and so on).
The Cosy measures 11” (28cm) high and 14” (35.5cm) wide.
It weighs 65g.
The Tea Cosy is in excellent condition, no damage that I can see and in very clean unused condition.
A rare find that makes a great WW1 display piece.
