Vintage Canadian or North American Inuit People's Knife with Scrimshaw Decorated Caribou Antler Sheath and Grip

Here on offer is a vintage Canadian or North American Inuit Knife with decorated caribou antler sheath and grip.

The single edged polished steel blade is 2.75” (7cm) long and has a really well fitting carved and decorated antler grip.

The knife fits into a caribou antler ‘slab’ sheath, which has also been decorated and has a brown leather scabbard collar covering where the knife fits into the slot in the antler.

The hand carved ‘scrimshaw’ decoration is more of a geometric diamond design.

The antler itself looks to have some real age given the old scratches and wear on the back.

I believe these knifes where made for the tourist trade back in the 1960’s and I found a similar one in the Reading Museum.

This one has a faint pencil or ink numbers on the front, which look like 040, similar to those used by museums to track their display items?

A fine example of an Inuit made knife, that makes a great display item and can only increase in value!

It measures 11.75” (30cm) long and 5.5” (14cm) wide at its widest point.

It weighs 205g.
