Unusual Vintage Metal and Brass Model Artillery Cannon that Fires Blank Caps

Here on offer is a really well engineered vintage pressed metal and brass model artillery cannon that actually fires blank caps.

I think this was ‘factory’ made and is possibly German in origin, but I can’t find a makers name or stamp on it.

The main chassis and wheels are made from a thick pressed and folded steel metal and the firing mechanism and barrel are formed out of brass.

The wheels rotate and have springs inside on the axel.

The trigger is pulled back like a revolver and locks in place allowing the brass cover to be unscrewed from the base of the barrel. Then I assume a rimmed blank cap was placed into the barrel and the cover screwed back in place. Then the impact of the trigger being fired, its very strong being powered by two strong springs under the chassis, would fire the blank, emitting a flame and smoke from the top of the barrel.

Interestingly it has four small holes drilled underneath the barrel near the top, which are normally added to a barrel to allow gasses to escape. The diameter at the top of the barrel is far smaller than at the base, about big enough to fire a wooden matchstick.

The trigger is fired by pressing down on the flat release pad on the top and rear of the chassis. This is located just in front of the threaded height adjustment screw, which adjusts the angle of elevation.

The brass is in excellent condition , which a nice aged patina, but the steel does show some light surface rust in some areas, please see my pictures.

As I stated at the start, this is a very well and skilfully engineered model and it makes a great desk ornament and discussion piece.

The model measures 7” (18cm) long, the barrel is 4” (10.2cm) long and it is 2.2” (5.5cm) wide wheel to wheel.

It weighs 215g.

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
