Boer War POW “Trench Art” Small Brass & Copper Victorian Ladies Shoe – Paperweight c1903

Here on offer is a Boer War POW made “Trench Art”, small brass and copper Victorian Ladies Shoe shaped Paperweight.

This is one of two Boer War POW “Brass Shoe” items that I am selling and they both came in a beautiful wooden POW box from the island of Bermuda, dated 1903. This relates to the South African Boer soldiers that the British interned on Bermuda during the 2nd Boer War. The last prisoners being released as late as 1903.

The Shoe itself has been made from a flattened artillery shell case that has a shaped top section copper riveted in place to look like the shoe studs and a copper toe piece soldered in place.
There are some marks tapped into the brass to look like the stitching on a shoe.

It has an overall age patina finish to the brass and slight watermark on the front, which could probably be polished out if required.

A great piece of POW Trench Art memorabilia, from the 2nd Boer War.

It measures 4.3” (11cm) wide, 2.75” (7cm) high and weighs 70g.
