Model 1933 SS Enlisted Man's Dagger with ‘Tiger Stripe’ Grip by Robert Klaas - RZM M7/37 1051/38 SS

Here on offer is an original model 1933 RZM SS Dagger by Robert Klaas.

What makes this dagger interesting is the fine ebony wood grip has subtle dark thick ‘Tiger Stripe’ marks running across it horizontally. These can be made out if you view it under a bright light and I believe it is very rare to see Tiger Stripes in ebony wood? The grip itself is in excellent condition with no repairs and fits into the crossguards really well.

The grip eagle is of a fine quality and you can see all the detail of the birds feathering, talons, wreath and swastika, a nice early example.

The SS runes button is securely in place and has a slight rubbing to the top left hand edge, which has removed a tiny part of the outer circle of black enamel.

The crossguards and tang nut are the early solid nickel variety and are all in excellent order. The lower reverse crossguard is stamped with the District Roman numeral, “I”.

The blade is in great condition, with just the slightest amount of grey on the surfaces. There are some light surface scratches and you can see the In and Out runner marks. The front is engraved with the SS motto, "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" and the reverse is marked with the RZM insignia, maker marked "M7/37" (Robert Klaas, Solingen-Ohligs) and marked "RZM 1051/38" with the SS runes. It hasn’t been sharpened and he edges are not notched and the tip is still very sharp.
Most of the darkening to the motto and RZM mark has gone. It still retains its original dark leather scabbard buffer and the blade sits perfectly central in the lower crossguard.

The scabbard fittings are the solid nickel type as well to match the crossguards and are in excellent condition, with just a slight flattening to the lower ball. (no splits). One of the scabbard screws is missing near the hanger ring, but this can be easily replaced as required.

The metal scabbard shell still has some of its original black paint and is in great-undented condition. If this was to be professionally repainted, the dagger would make a very impressive display piece, but I like to leave the daggers as original as I can.

A great original SS dagger with a very unusual and rare version of a subtle ‘Tiger Stripe” grip.

The blade measures 8.75” (22.3cm) and the dagger itself 13.7” (34.8cm) long.

It weighs 440g.
