Pair of Ww2 ‘Trench Art Candlesticks’ - Inert 20mm Cannon Cartridges

Here on offer is a great pair of ww2 ‘trench art candlestick’ inert 20mm cannon cartridges.

I am no ammunition expert but believe these may be the type known as ‘20x120’ that was developed in Denmark in the 1920s for the Madsen automatic cannon. They where offered in various mountings for aircraft, AA and anti-tank use, although only successful in the AA role. It was never the primary armament of any major army, but was widely used in WW2 and remained in service for decades afterwards. The ammunition for the gun was made in several countries, mostly notably in the UK by Kynoch, as was usually the case for Madsen ammunition as they had no ammunition production facilities of their own.

The base of the brass shells have been expertly fitted with a five pronged heavy brass footing to enable the cartridges to stand securely.

The steel projectile pulls out of the shell casing and has been fitted with a copper collar. The top of the projectile can then be inserted into the casing and there is a circular hole in the base of it that a candle can be fitted into.

Both cartridges are in great condition, with a dark age patina finish to the steel projectile.

They just make a great desk display as well as candleholders.

They each measure about 7.9” (19.7cm) high and the shell case look to be about 1” (2.5cm) diameter.

They each weigh about 390g.
