WW2 RAF Brass Trench Art Pocket Petrol Lighter by TCW TAIFUN

Here on offer is a WW2 RAF brass trench art pocket petrol lighter.

The lighter was originally made by TCW TAIFUN in Austria in the 1930’s and has the maker’s marks on the base.

It has then been adapted by someone in the RAF by removing any exterior finish it had and adding a brass RAF eagle on the lower section and a brass Kings Crown to the top section.

The lighter itself has a vertical placed flint and a windshield.

It is sold with no petrol or flint to conform with shipping regulations.

The TCW company was founded by Karl Auer Baron von Welsbach, an Austrian chemist and the inventor of the lighter flint. TCW was not a manufacturer of lighters, Karl Auer was selling the lighters of other manufacturers (for example IMCO) under the TCW brand-name.

The lighter is in great condition, it has a small split to the bottom corner and an overall aged patina to the brass metal.

It measures 1.6” (4cm) wide, 2.25” (5.7cm) high and 0.6” (1.4cm) thick.

It weighs 45g.
