Beautiful Edward VII Court Sword with Scabbard and Ornate Bullion Knot c1905
Here on offer is fine example of British Edward VII Court dress sword that I have owned and case displayed for over 50 years, in my private collection.
It retains much of its original ‘fire’ gilt finish and comes with its gilt brass and black leather scabbard and ornate bullion knot.
The knuckle bow hilt is made from gilt brass, topped with a gilt pierced Edwardian crown pommel. It has an enclosed silver wire bound grip and scallop shaped guard, mounted with what appears to be a solid silver Edward VII cypher set within laurel leaves.
The D guard has been correctly wrapped with a beautiful gold and red bullion knot that is in excellent condition.
The straight unfullered 32” long blade is in MINT condition and is etched on both sides with scrolling foliate motifs. There is also an entwined royal cypher or initials that I can’t make out, set with a royal crown above, in the centre on both sides of the blade?
There is no maker or distributors mark on this example.
The leather and red felt scabbard washers is still in place and have clearly helped protect the blade from any corrosion over the years.
The black leather covered scabbard has two ribbed gilt mounts, the upper fitted with an ornate frog stud. Court sword scabbards are always slightly flimsy given their construction and small diameter, but this example is still in excellent sound condition, retaining nearly all of the original gilt finish.
The blade is 32” (81.2cm) long and the whole sword measures 37.5” (95.3cm)
It weighs a 700g.
