Impressive Victorian Court Sword with Scabbard and Ornate Bullion Knot by Ede & Son, London

Here on offer is fine example of British Victorian Court dress sword that I have owned and case displayed for over 50 years, in my private collection.

It retains much of its original ‘fire’ gilt finish and comes with its gilt brass and black leather scabbard and ornate bullion knot, making a beautiful and hard to find, display sword.

The knuckle bow hilt is made from gilt brass, topped with a gilt Victorian crown pommel. It has an enclosed silver wire bound grip and scallop shaped guard, mounted with a VR cypher and crown set within oak leaves and acorns.

The D guard has been correctly wrapped with a beautiful gold bullion knot that is in excellent condition.

The straight unfullered 31.2” long blade is in near mint condition and is etched on both sides with scrolling foliate motifs and on the front a VR crown and on the reverse, crossed lances and the maker/distributors details:

Ede & Son, Chancery Lane, London.

There are just a couple of tiny black marks to the finish on the blade.

The red felt scabbard washer is still in place and has clearly protected the blade from any moisture corrosion over the years.

The black leather covered scabbard has three decorative gilt mounts, the upper two with hanger suspension rings. Court sword scabbards are always slightly flimsy given their construction and small diameter, but this example is still in excellent sound condition. There is some loss of gilt to the front of the mounts.

The blade is 31.2” (79cm) long and the whole sword measures 38” (96.5cm)

It weighs a 660g.
