Webley Mark 2 Sports Starting Pistol with .32 & .22 Blank Calibre 6 Round Magazines and Original Box c1950

Here on offer is a vintage boxed Webley Mark 2 sports starting pistol complete with .32 and .22 blank calibre, six round magazines and its original box.

This vintage Mark 2 Starting Pistol was made by Webley & Scott Ltd, Birmingham, England in the early 1950’s.

This is a larger pistol compared to the MK1, that can fire both .32 & .22 Blanks.

The blanks are loaded into the top of the magazine and inserted into the front of the pistol.

Both magazines can hold 6 blanks and the magazine exits from the back after the 6th shot. The Webley MK2 introduced a ‘shot count’ which can be observed by looking through the hole on the left side of the pistol, where you can see a number between 1 and 6.

On the left side of the pistol, it is stamped with:

MARK 2 CAL .32/.22
MADE IN ENGLAND

The pistol is made of blued steel and features white semi-chequered Bakelite grips, with WEBLEY in raised letters set into them.

The metalwork on this example is excellent condition with only minor use related marks. The only damage I can see is a small section of the white grip missing near the trigger, as can be seen in my photos.

It comes with its original Webley labelled box which has some age related storage marks, but is still solid.

The instruction leaflet is now missing, but examples can be found for reference online.

It also comes with a small tin of 0.22 blank cartridges, with some contents.

The starting pistol produces a loud report and smoke when fired, creating a distinct signal for the commencement of races or other events. The reliability and loudness of the report made the Webley a preferred choice for many race officials and competitors. Although the Webley is primarily associated with sporting events, it also found its way into theatrical performances and historical re-enactments. It’s realistic appearance and sound effects allowed it to effectively simulate the firing of a real firearm without the danger of live ammunition.

The pistol measures 5” (12.7cm) long and with the box and contents, weighs 700g.
