Federated Malay States Police Hallmarked Silver Badge 1935

Here on offer is a rare and impressive Federated Malay States Police Hallmarked Silver Badge, circa 1935.

The large star shaped badge has been cast in solid silver and has the image of a running tiger in the centre and the letters below around the circle:

F M S

POLICE

On the reverse is a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “L” for the year 1935.

It also shows the maker’s mark, “F & S” set in three separate small squares.

I think this mark applies to Fattorini & Sons who opened a factory in 1925, The Bradford Works (later becoming known as Bradford House), Barr Street, Birmingham and it was registered as Fattorini & Sons Ltd.

On the reverse is also a very sturdy long fixing pin and “C” clasp.

This brooch is in excellent near mint condition.

It measures 2” (5.2cm) wide, point to point and weighs 11.6g.

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
