WW2 German Army Dagger with a beautiful Yellow/Butterscotch Grip by ROBERT KLAAS

Here on offer is an excellent example of WW2 German Army dagger by ROBERT KLAAS.

My understanding is that a lot of Robert Klaas produced daggers show extensive plating loss due to the fact they didn’t suitably prepare the base metal before plating it. Therefore the plating didn’t last more than a few years!

I am pleased to say this example is in excellent condition with only minor signs of silver-plating loss.

The 14 oak leaf pattern Pommel is in excellent condition, showing quality hand finishing to the oak leaves with just some dimpling to the base metal on the crown, under the silver-plating.

The grip is the solid trolon/celluloid type, in a beautiful yellow/butterscotch colour that is in mint condition, no cracks or chips to the finish.

Robert Klaas produced two “generic” types of the spread winged Army Eagle crossguard. They appear to be the same design but one was enhanced with hand-embellishment and the other wasn’t. I am pleased to say this is the less common “enhanced” type and still retains all of it’s crisp detailing and NO loss of plating. The reverse just shows minor signs of some under the surface dimpling to the base metal.

The ferrule has the finely detailed oak leaf design.

Although Robert Klaas had issues with their dagger fittings, they are known to have produced expensive nickel-plated blades and this has one of them. The 10.25” (26cm) blade retains its highly polished nickel-plated finish with just some signs of rubbing/loss where it has worn against the scabbard liners. It also has a very slight curve to the very tip of the blade.
The reverse ricasso is deeply stamped with a clear “Kissing Cranes” Robert Klaas trademark.

The blade is complete with its dark brown leather scabbard buffer pad.

The silver-plated metal scabbard just shows a very shallow dent on the front lower section. There is some small loss of plating to the very tip and slight straight line lifting to the scabbard edges.

The scabbard bands have the oak leaf style with the interesting “asterisk” marks that where used to cover up the casting lines at both ends.

The throat is held in place by two round-headed screws on the sides.

The dagger in the scabbard measures 15.75” (40cm) long and it weighs 345g.

This is actually a beautiful example of this maker’s style of dagger with minimal plating loss, making it a great and rare collectors piece!
