WW2 German Wehrmacht (Army) Belt and Buckle (1936) – Brought Back by British Solider Albert Smith

Here on offer is an excellent “untouched and fresh to market” example of a WW2 German Wehrmacht (Army) Belt and Buckle.

This Belt and Buckle is part of a small collection of items that I have recently acquired from a family member of a WW2 British solider named Albert Smith.

Albert Smith served with the 7th Cameroonian Rifles who where part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division. They landed in Ostend in October 1944 and battled on through to the assault on Bremen in April 1945.

He brought back some war trophies, which included this Belt and Buckle, a Red Cross Hewer and a Luftwaffe Dagger.

Apparently they have been in a suitcase under the stairs since the end of WW2.

The Buckle is in near mint condition, retaining all its fine detailing and showing no signs of damage.

I believe this is the “early” (1936) version of the aluminium box Buckle type, as it has a pebbled background field and a slightly domed, embossed central motif.

The central motif features an embossed Wehrmacht style eagle with down swept wings on a subtly pebbled field to the centre, encompassed by an embossed oak-leaf cluster to the bottom and script, “Gott Mit Uns”, (God with Us), to the top.

The oak-leaf cluster and script are on a ribbed background field and are encircled by both an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border.

The reverse has the integral, raised, slotted buckle catch and separate prong bar and the two prongs are sharp and intact.

The thick black leather belt measures 37.5” (95.2cm), end to end and is in great flexible but firm condition for its age. There are a couple of splits to the leather, but they don’t appear to have gone all the way through the thickness? There may also be an old repair to a split towards the Buckle, but I can’t be sure?

I would strongly recommend that it is used for display purposed only and should not be worn or there is a future risk it may tear!

This is an excellent genuine example of an untouched “Vet Bring Back”, Wehrmacht (Army) Belt and Buckle that would make a great addition to any WW2 German collection.
