“Antique Desk Set” Comprising of a Silver Plated Horse Hoof Inkwell and very RARE Ink Nib Wipe Circa 1880

Here on offer is a fine and impressive “antique desk set” comprising of a silver plated horse hoof inkwell and very RARE ink nib wipe, circa 1880.

Both items have been made from a horse's hoof with silver plate mounts and a plated horseshoe, and I would say they originated from the same horse.

I have seen a number of horse hoof inkwells over the years, but NEVER an ink nib wipe!

The inkwell has a hinged lid that closes flush to the top and is missing its small internal glass liner. The plating is in excellent condition with a tiny lose of plating to the edges of the hinge,

The ink nip wipe is in the same excellent condition with a material top pad that is now coloured with dry blue ink.

They make a fantastic matching desk set!

This type of desk set was popular in the late Victorian period and these I believe date from around 1880.

The each measure approximately 3.5” (9cm) high and 4.2” (10.5cm) across the base of the shoe.

Together they weigh a heavy 1.48Kg!
