George V Imperial Service Medal in Original Case - Named to - WILLIAM HENRY MERRITT

Here on offer a very fine example of a George V Imperial Service Medal in its original case and named to, WILLIAM HENRY MERRITT.

The medal is circular and was struck in solid silver and issued between 1932 and 1937.

The obverse bears the effigy of George V and has the following inscription around the inner edge:

GEORGIVS.V.D.G.BRITT. OMN REX. ET. INDIAE IMP.

The reverse depicts a finely sculptured male figure gazing out across the sea towards the setting sun, symbolising rest after labour, with the inscription;

FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE

The recipient's name can be found officially impressed in large capitals on the medal's rim.

In this case the medal was awarded to:

WILLIAM HENRY MERRITT

The ribbon suspender is a ring attached to a fastening that surmounts the medal.

The ribbon itself is 38mm wide, red in colour with a central light blue stripe.

The original case of issue has a black-pebbled leatherette exterior, with some gilt finishing.

Inside it has a maroon velvet recessed medal bed and silk lid lining.

This example is in very fine condition, no dings or scratches that I can see and is more unusual being awarded to a lady.

The medal measures 1.26” (3.2cm) diameter and weighs 31g with the ribbon.
